Changing Climate – Poems & Verse.

POLAR ICE CAPS.

The polar ice caps are on the melt,

From the sun’s warm rays they have felt.

Oceans all are on the rise.

Nature says it’s no disguise.

Soil everywhere is on to drought.

Time is wasting so give a shout.

Trees and plants and flowers burn.

Can we the future turn?

Poor planet earth we have abused.

I, for one, am not amused.

This our world, our only home.

If it’s lost, we will bemoan.

WARMEST PART.

Warmest part the planet the arctic.

In this I am not sarcastic.

Ecosystems on verge of extinction.

This their evolutionary distinction.

What are we waiting for?

Why we such a bore?

Move, get out, be active!

With warming, be not reactive.

The world soon uninhabitable.

And all life mere collateral.

WE HEAR OF METHANE.

We hear of methane

Enough to go insane.

And carbon dioxide

Enough to decide.

Stay on the path for the world to warm?

Or get off that path and the world’s reborn.

Climate change, climate change.

Nature’s way to enrage?

No.

Climate change, climate change.

Time now to engage.

THIS WORLD WE CALL EARTH.

This world we call Earth,

The place of our birth.

Not Venus or Mars, planets unworthy.

This world we call home

Has already shown

In stark to the planets a golden throne.

This world, this world,

Our only pearl.

We risk to lose it at our peril.

CHILDREN, WHAT WILL YOU INHERIT?

Children, what will you inherit?

By us a world of dust.

Children you believe you merit.

Instead of gold, we give you rust.

Children, what are you bequeathed?

No will or dowry,

But a funeral wreath.

Children what is your tomorrow?

Time no more to borrow.

Oh! Our descendants, we pray you have no sorrow.

COMMITTED AM I.

Committed am I to change

Global temps at higher range?

Have I what it takes

To bring down the stakes

From warming decision mistakes?

What power have I an effort to stem

A heat that will condemn

While I alone do play, deny, pretend?

Am I true to myself

Or a lie in itself

Blame to all and everyone else?

My courage commitment I see in large writ?

No, deplorable hypocrite.

Inactive I as warming spikes without a quit.

TURN BACK.

Turn back the clocks to days of old

Before this warming was foretold.

Turn back the clocks to days of old

When sheets of ice on Earth took hold.

The good old days were best we claim:

Earth so verdant green its fame.

Lovely was the glorious past,

With ice and snow and glaciers vast.

Turn back the clocks to days of old

Before this warming was so bold.

WHAT ONCE WAS.

What once was mercury’s rise to tell

Are temps too high so close to hell.

“Bring my candy! Bring my wine!

If this be truth, I will decline!”

Farms with food replaced with heat,

Now my children drought you’ll eat.

“Bring my meat, my bread, my beer!”

If this be truth, I shall not hear!”

To where upon this earth escape

From global end that is our fate?

“Bring my games and alcohol!

“If this be truth, then damn it all!”

Bound hand and foot are helpless we,

While scourge abounds of rising sea?

“Bring my jewels and my gold!

If that’s your truth, it’s gotten old!”

You yourself will soon succumb

Confined within a fiery tomb.

“Pshaw and bah! Away your gloom!

I have my niceties within this room!”

Sweet dreams I wish you in your trance,

With minds like yours we stand no chance.

Good night inert upon your down

While I and all hope not to drown.

What once was mercury’s rise to show

From ignorance your gift bestowed.

BEFORE YOU I.

Before you I an activist

Together we are made of this.

Remember day and day again

Every sunrise to begin –

Effort make to change the course

Of what we thought to be our course.

Before you I an activist

Tell me you are made of this.

Fossil fuels imbedded deep

Helpless we within their keep.

Help the others to forsake

Their prior lives and to awake.

Before you I an activist

Take my hand to be part of this.

EVERYWHERE THE FIRES BURN.

Everywhere the fires burn

We are not of no concern.

Droughts around intensify

See this with your naked eye.

Storms and hurricanes fully thrive.

Grateful we to be alive?

Global warming, climate change:

Words alone should not be strange.

Where we walk the ground does burn!

We’ll end our lives in funeral urns.

Throughout the world the oceans rise:

Stopping that we don’t oblige.

Raging heat makes earth perspire,

In our sleep we shall expire.

Change in climate globe is warming!

Complain you not! We all had warning.

CONDITIONED AIR.

Conditioned air, conditioned air

Machines to help us feel fair.

Heat outside is kept at bay

By all conditioned air today.

More and more machines worldwide,

The lowly fan stands just aside.

Temps keep rising no relief,

We’ll stop that heat is our belief.

With fan and air condition sweet,

Global warming yes we’ll beat.

Conditioned air, condition air,

We’ll survive in such good flair!

And forget us not the lowly fan

Against the heat our last great stand!

Conditioned air, conditioned air

When gone how long’s life without despair?

THE FALL.

The fall of civilization

Falter now and perish

Find the utilization

In sacred house of parish.

The earth is uninhabitable

Resolve for this is now

Climate incompatible

Deter and stop somehow.

Solutions indecipherable

Confusion reigns supreme

No longer life recyclable

Nightmare stead of dream.

God’s creatures all unlivable

The world agape in thirst

This is unforgivable

Our inaction at its worst.

SIBERIA IS BURNING.

Siberia is burning.

Snow it is yearning.

Siberia and blackened smoke.

Winter with a heat stroke.

The air for those in Moscow:

Try not to cough now.

For those in Vladivostok:

Change is quite the climate shock.

Siberia is getting hot.

Worse than any sunspot.

Siberia on circled arc

Ice no more but soil dark.

UN MUNDO TENEMOS.

Un mundo tenemos.

Otro no podemos rentemos.

Quando earth se va,

no digan “que sera sera.”

In la caliente no podemos jugar.

Y hai no otro lugar.

Disierto en el mundo

No es fecundo.

Quando despertaremos?

Ahora! Estar desesperados.

ICARUS.

Icarus

Waxed.

Too close

To the sun

Against your father’s advice.

Melted wings

From the sun

Icarus

Foolish

Isn’t climate change enough?

Icarus

Fell to earth

From sun’s

Heat.

Sun.

Climate change.

Death.

EXTINCTION.

Extinction.

Dinosaurs.

Flora.

Coral reefs.

Neanderthals.

Who or what is next in line?

Will Climate Change do us all in?

I do not believe it.

But others must believe this.

Our planet is next in line to be a

Potential Mars or Mercury.

Desolate.

Extinct.

Uninhabitable.

Polar Bears gone forever.

Do I care about people?

No!

We caused this shit.

If people go extinct

So be it.

Extinction.
